Personal Support Worker for an elderly client in Woodstock
CareQuilt is looking for a caregiver to provide companionship and cognitive support to an 87-year-old woman living in a retirement apartment in Woodstock, ON. The client has Parkinson’s disease, congestive heart failure and progressive dementia with hallucinations. She uses a walker, has hearing difficulty and is coping with depression after losing her dog. The role is in-person; it is not remote.
Work is scheduled as two 2-hour visits per week (typically preferred on Tuesday and Thursday), with pay at CAD$27.00 per hour (CAD$108.00/week based on the current schedule). The position should begin within about two weeks and there may be opportunities for additional hours in mid-October when family support is reduced.
The primary focus is companionship and safety rather than personal care. The retirement home covers meals, medications, personal care and housekeeping, so you will not be responsible for those tasks.
- Activities: walks inside the building, card games, puzzles and other meaningful engagement.
- Cognitive support: memory prompts, gentle redirection during confusion or hallucinations, and supervision for safety.
- Requirements: experience with Parkinson’s and dementia care, calm and patient manner, reliability, and clear English communication without a heavy accent due to the client’s hearing issues.
Flexibility to add visits as needs change and good communication with the family are important for this role.
